Luanti - Season III 🧙

:bookmark: ITT we discuss Season III of the public Luanti server on eom.dev. Live streams from the server are hosted on Owncast; see the live streaming calendar for scheduling. Stream recordings will be posted here, and players are invited to share their own content from the server in the subsequent thread as well.

Welcome to Season III

Basics

Luanti is a free and open source voxel game engine. A wide variety of games can be created using this engine; however, most are similar to Minecraft. This is the third season of the public Luanti server on eom.dev, and it is planned to continue throughout the year of 2026.

Luanti is available for free on Linux, MacOS, Android, and Windoes.

What’s New in Season III?

This season, we will be using Asuna rather than Minetest Game as the basis for our server. This will provide many of the mods used in the previous seasons, and should be a more feature-rich starting point for customization.

Beyond that, a couple of additional mods have been installed to provide a few unique features. First of all, integration with the Matrix chat has been configured. In-game chat will now be bridged with the Matrix room, allowing players to stay connected while away from the game.

Additionally, there are opportunities to connect to the self-hosted AI models that were recently deployed on the platform.

Basic LLM capabilities can be provided with an existing mod; however, the agentic models from LocalAGI using either the Matrix connector or a custom one for Luanti itself would be much more powerful and immersive. This is something we will have to develop throughout the season.

Finally, I intend to utilize creative mode for building rather than playing strictly in survival. This is partly for practicality purposes, but also experimentation, as I have not done so previously. Regular players are also invited to play in creative mode. Reach out to @eric if you would like to be granted the necessary privs.

:warning: As is seen in the video, we have noticed the server crashes somewhat frequently. I am currently observing the logs in hopes of identifying the cause, but it may be necessary for me to reset the server and potentially revert to Minetest Game rather than Asuna.

I built a small house at the initial spawn to avoid skeltons killing players continuously.
Please make any modification as needed.

Yeah spawn has been a bit dangerous - thanks for doing that. @CaptainSparx founded a village I’ve dubbed Sparxville. Perhaps we should move spawn to there?

Any idea how to rotate the Town Hall?

It should be doable with the edit mod. I think there is a cut and paste tool that should make it possible.

S3:E2 | Seussian Staircase

In this stream I am starting my first building project of Season III: a staircase in the sky inspired by Dr. Seuss. Eventually, I would like to develop these skylands into a hangout space - specifically for hosting my Live Coding sessions. It would be great to add a mod that would allow live music in game for this purpose, but I have not found an appropriate on yet. Suggestions are welcome!

S3:E3 | Build Showcase

I was on the server with @Zephyr, @Deer, and Linus earlier today and decided to start live streaming to show off some of the builds they have been working on.

S3:E4 | An Unusual Guest

This morning I noticed some interesting messages in the Matrix chat:

<Futuray> Does anyone has excess stone ?
<PRIUM67> NO ONLY WITH A DIMAND SORD
<Zephyr> need more?
<Futuray> No, thanks !
<Zephyr> :)

<PRIUM67> How Do You TELEPORT
<Futuray> Normally, nobody can...
<Futuray> Only the admins
<PRIUM67> I Don’t Know HOW To
<Futuray> But we all have the fast privilege.
<Futuray> So, it could look like w're teleporting...
<PRIUM67> HOW DO YOU DO THAT

I decided to log in and see what was afoot. It was mostly an amusing interaction, and I took the opportunity to decorate the interior of my house.

S3:E5 | Christ the Redeemer

This was a quick live stream showing off a statue of Christ the Redeemer that has appeared on the server. I do not know who built it, but I thought it was cool so I wanted to show it off. I have been putting some effort into publishing a calendar for live streams on Owncast, but I am finding that I am not very good at sticking to my own plans, so I may try to do more spontaneous streams in the future. The best way to catch them live will be to follow Owncast with an ActivityPub account.

mwiisj had a lapse moment and paid for it.
Dark slime got them.

can we get that mod that tells you what you’re looking at without having to break it?

What is this uwu, something like that

pressing F5 should bring up the debug screen with coords and what you’re looking at

Here is the looong stream I did.

I edited the post so that the video would be embedded, rather than appearing as a URL. Everyone is invited to share their content from the server here! I decided to publish my content in a forum thread intending for others to share their perspectives alongside mine. Thanks for being the first, @CaptainSparx. Not on Owncast, though?

Nope. May try it some day.

I had the idea to make an armor outfits mod to give players more customisation without needing to add custom skins. I could also add a unique armor for each of our regular discourse members, and some could have labels on the rear (mod/admin or something else)
Is this something we could add to the server?

  • Sounds great
  • Yes please, just the outfits
  • Yes please, just the player specifics
  • Not really interested

DM me with reference pictures or a texture if you would like custom armor

Server Rules

It has been brought to my attention that there have been some interpersonal conflicts on the server, so I thought it would be useful for us to discuss the server rules and how they should be enforced. There was a similar discussion in Season I that I will link here:

As I mentioned, I am somewhat disinclined towards rules. I think it is better to implement technical solutions that disable things we do not want. We have protector blocks to prevent griefing, and I can install PVP Toggle to prevent unwanted combat.

I can also give regular players the privs for creative mode, kicking, and banning as needed or wanted. At the same time, this is actually a blank canvas that we can take in any direction we like. We can have a peaceful and creative server, hardcore survival, or even 2b2t style anarchy. It can be whatever we want it to be, so just let me know your thoughts!

I guess many are used to survival type servers and not creative.
I certainly don’t want 2b2t style play.

Pvp toggle sounds like a good idea. I agree that not being able to do something is better than asking everyone not to do it

I think i have worked out that locked chests are fully private, protected chests are opened by anyone named in the protected area, or public if there is no protector block, and normal chests are public even if in a protected area. Knowing this should help us keep our stuff safe too

I am quite enjoying the survival creative blend

I think we should put the ‘server rules’ poster in the initial spawn.
I tried to copy it from the market, but I could’t craft a poster.
Could anyone with priv copy it?
