SuperTuxKart 🏎

:bookmark: ITT I am sharing recorded live streams of online multiplayer matches from SuperTuxKart. These sessions are typically scheduled among eom.dev members, though they are usually open to the public as well.

Welcome to SuperTuxKart

Welcome to our first match of SuperTuxKart! For those unfamiliar, this is a free and open source racing game similar to MarioKart. We experimented with hosting our own server as well as joining public ones and, despite some technical difficulties, had a lot of fun with this game! As always, thanks for joining us @Zephyr - I look forward to our next showdown. :trophy:

I intend to host more events for this game, and I have been inviting people to join via a calendar event. This calendar can be viewed on Owncast. If you would like to receive an invitation for one of these events, please send me a direct message and I will send you an invitation via email.

I’ve been downloading various add-ons: player/karts, tracks, and arenas. If you start with the player/karts then, in theory, every real player can appear different on the streams. I don’t have any tracks or arenas to recommend yet – there’s so much to explore! :grinning:
When I first registered online the player name “Zephyr” was taken. I’m going to see if there’s something a little closer to that available, even if @Zaltus is an okay stand-in.
Really looking forward to joining in on Saturday. :video_game:

Mini-Golf Migraine

Rivalries are formed in the first SuperTuxKart event scheduled between @Zephyr, @kritomas, @LogalDeveloper, @ThisNurseKills, and myself. This was the first of, hopefully, many STK events to come on eom.dev. Reach out on Matrix to be invited to the next event on the streaming calendar. It would be cool if we could organize a tournament. My money will be on @kritomas. :trophy:

We played vanilla STK for this first event largely to reduce the amount of setup required for the stream. Having now resolved the issues that were causing dropped frames between OBS and Owncast (thanks again, @LogalDeveloper, for the real-time assistance), I would definately be interested in exploring additional content for this game - especially custom karts. :racing_car:

Prior to the stream, there was also a call to enable voice chat among the participants. As you may have seen in my streams with @ThisNurseKills, this has been a challenge for my streams since moving to the new location. This is a feature I intend to enable through Matrix, but is currently blocked by technical issues. With renewed interest in the feature, I will prioritize the following issue and try to have voice chat enabled for the next event:

I will have more information about the next event soon! Thanks again to everyone who joined the first event.

Double Dipping

A few mistakes were made with this episode: first of all, not enough notice was given to allow people time to join the game. Having practiced the game a bit more, our 1v1 matches aren’t competitive enough just yet. To accommodate, I suggested we switch to Luanti at 38:13, which throws off the episode count for Season II. I’ll have to call this The Lost Episode of Season II. On the bright side, we had a good experience with showing chat on screen, which is a feature I intend to include from now on.

I had a lot of fun during this stream! Thanks for hosting it.

I enjoyed this one too. I’ll definitely host another!

Masterclass

Behold the master in his natural habitat. In this live stream, I will show you the correct way to play SuperTuxKart. The skill sets demonstrated here have taken decades of dedication to perfect. Through this, the ultimate SuperTuxKart tutorial, you will learn how to achieve greatness both in game and life.

More seriously, I want to put together a more consistent streaming schedule for games and other projects, so in the future I will try to give more advanced notice and a calendar event for future events.

I am still working out the optimal configuration for OBS on the new Tower Plus. I was able to achieve a stable stream by the end of this video, but I plan to do more testing before updating the thread.
