In today’s stream I am doing some preliminary steps to prepare for Season IV of Luanti on eom.dev. This season is going to be quite different from the previous ones primarily due to the use of singlenode world generation. The map will be completely empty at the start of the season and it will be up to the players to build everything. Rather than mining blocks from the world, we will be relying on the CommodityMarkets mod to provide materials for the world.
Skins created by thiccsnail along with the SkinsDB mod will allow players to choose one of eleven teams.
Expanding upon the City CommodityMarket mod, each team will have an associated market.
And finally, time will be frozen at sunset and gravity will be set to that of Mars to support an outer-space theme. I have received feedback that players are still enjoying Season III, and I have more work to do before I am ready to deploy Season IV, so there will be another month or so before the start of the new season. Once started, I am planning to set up a spawn platform, central market, post office, library, and a few other landmarks in the eight corners of the map. In the meantime, feel free to offer feedback on the concept or share ideas you may have for the game. I can work on implementing additional features over the next month while preparing for the deployment.
Fair enough. I was inspired by RuneScape and Eve Online for the designated PvP zone. I’ll put it to a vote and am going to reserve the right to be the tie breaker:

Yes! I can actually deploy multiple instances and have them accessible via alternative ports. I’ve been thinking that I will deploy S4 privately so that I can set up the basics, then I’ll make it available via port 30001, then switch to the default port once the regulars are happy with the new setup. I just need to double check the Ansible playbook to ensure S3 won’t be overwritten. I’ve also been planning to start making each season’s world download available through Gitea releases…
Doing some in-game testing and prep work for Season IV, my goal today was to set up the initial spawn point as a transportation hub to the different corners of the world. For now, I have set the teleport pads to take players to the extremes of the map; however, it may be better to set them to half that distance so that players can access all areas more efficiently. I will be creating a few landmarks at these locations, such as a town hall, central market, post office, etc. For the time being, this server is not publicly accessible. As I mentioned above, I will make a beta version available on an alternate port once these landmarks are in place, and we will officially switch to the new season once the server is sufficiently play-tested.
Still getting things set up on what will be the Season IV server, today’s live stream showcases some of the work I have done so far. In addition to the initial spawn platform, I have set up a neighborhood, central market, library, and a pvp arena. There are a few more things I want to add to the landmarks highlighted by each teleport pad, and in the coming weeks I intend to make the server available first as a demo for regular players and then to the public.
Season IV is well under way, having now initially stocked the markets, created landmarks, and started adding mini games. In this stream, I finish setting up the initial landmark platforms before @CaptainSparx joins me to trial some of the mini games with a round of chess. We were also able to use voice chat thanks to the room Captain created on Stoat:
The Luanti Matrix room supports legacy calls for voice chat, so we are welcome to use whichever we like for this purpose.
The Season IV server is officially ready for players to join and build, so feel free to log in and start playing the game! I will work on getting a Season III world download ready for everyone.
In this stream, I give @ThisNurseKills a tour of the server showcasing the work @chi, @CaptainSparx, @Deer, and @EYUP have done over the past couple of weeks. Thanks to all of the above for your help in play testing this idea of mine. I’m really glad people are finding it engaging, and I am especially looking forward to getting more mini games set up. Many of these are created with the Arena Lib mod, which is fairly complex, so it may take me some time to do so. If someone has experience with this or knows of a tutorial, please reach out!
I just started watching this animated short film by Solar Sands and the concept is very similar to the server. In this story, the world’s inhabitants did not themselves construct the world around them. Our world is the opposite - at least for now.
Quite a lot has been built on the server over the past two months and, given that I am not streaming to multiple platforms, I felt it was a good time to do a brief world tour. There are still a lot of platforms that have not been given a purpose, and so far only the red team base has started construction. Feel free to share ideas here and in the Matrix chat - or just take the liberty to start a project. Also, I am aware of the buzzing in the audio track. I’m working with new equipment and still need to optimize the configurations.
Today I am setting up the Murder mini game with arena_lib and making a little progress on the hedge maze. In both instances I am looking for builders who would like to assist in the design and construction of these areas. I can offer minegeld to anyone who would like to participate. It took me a while to understand how the arena_lib mod works, and I’m not certain I set it up correctly. It would be great to get a few people online together to test it out. Please reach out if you would like to be part of that as well!
Due to inactivity and a few in-game problems I created, I decided to start working on Season V in the background. As I was showing it off on stream, I was asked to make it live. I did so, but Season IV is still running and available on my local network. If anyone was in the middle of something in Season IV, we can switch back, load your work into Block Exchange, and then import it into the new server. Please reach out if you would like to do this!
