Season II Megathread 🍄

:bookmark: ITT we discuss Season II of the public Luanti server on eom.dev. Recorded live streams and videos from this season on the server may also be shared here.

What’s New?

For the new season, the world seed has been randomized and we have established an intention to develop a village near spawn. We have been able to get up and running quickly thanks to our familiarity with exiting mods and our use of the Edit mod. While there have been some additional changes to the mod list, some changes have been made to enhance gameplay.

Mods Added

Dwarf Fortress style caverns and Magma Conduits have been added. We have begun working on an underground city hoping to explore these mods more thoroughly.

Also, SkinsDB has been installed. There are only a few available by default, but players are invited to add custom skins by sending them to me. Reach out via direct message or Matrix chat for more details.

Mods Removed

Animalia has been removed. Excellent as the models and depth of behavior are, the issues with this mod were, unfortunately, numerous and distracting.

Replacements

We could create a fork of this mod to resolve these issues. Alternatively, we may experiment with the mods created by Liil:

Mod Requests

To request a mod be installed on the server, create an issue within the Season II milestone on Gitea with the label question (as in: you are asking the community if they agree with the request):

As has been previously mentioned, the Edit mod has been installed on the server, and we are copying content from Season I into Season II. Doing so has reminded me of a video from Adam Savage’s Tested showcasing a modular Dungeons and Dragons tabletop terrain:

I am subsequently inspired to create a library of modular builds that could easily be imported from season to season. Perhaps this is an idea we can build upon over the course of Season II.

Adam Savage has some of the most interesting content on YT. Liked that video a lot.

S2E1 | A Whole New World

This video was certainly not the quality I would have hoped for the first video of the season, but sometimes one must simply make do with what they have and improve in the future - that and be thankful that the TopHatRick YouTube channel only has 6 subscribers. :grin:

I just wanted to get the ball rolling with live streams in Season II. I plan to continue showcasing builds in future episodes, so please let me know if you make something you’d like in an episode. Content creators are also invited to share thier videos from the season in this thread.

Found a Goblin Market practically right under my house. It’s fiat currency is Coal lumps.

So I have set up the Public Mines hub. As before, the 3 TPs are spread out and at different depths: -600, -1200, and -1800. Did a slight remodel so as to differentiate it from the Player Spawn.

I have one thing to finalize – the “/sethome” warning poster.

I’ve added two new mods as well that should hopefully add some ambience to our caving experience. Let me know when you find them!

Water physics out of control


Sure my crops are still growing, but it’s noisy, weird, and I don’t care for it at all. :unamused:

Boating isn’t just more difficult. I got sucked under the sand and had to dig myself out while using up my oxygen!! :frowning_face:

Also, we found goblins and gobdogs. I wasn’t expecting this and got a jump scare when it happened. :scream: :grin:

Players can get sucked into vortexes and the water is starting to look like it may cause something worse. I also had 2 gobdogs attack me here, at night, in the vortex.

Can confirm that the gobdogs just randomly appear in the water at all times of the day.

Well that was a real blunder on my part. I’ve fixed the issue, but I had to reset the world. :slightly_frowning_face:

A lesson on source control: I had added the configuration files to a git repository, but then modified the live configuration to remove the problematic mod (dynamic liquid). When I added the Goblins mod, I did so in the source-controlled file, forgetting I hadn’t disabled the mod there as well. When I copied the file over to the server to start the Goblins mod, dynamic liquids was enabled and the issue you all saw took effect. Unfortunately, removing the mod did not fix this, so I had to reset the world seed.

The server is up and running again, but the world has been reset. I’m really sorry this cost people their work. I should have been more careful. I will be working to restore things throughout the day.

Quick question: Can you manually set a roll-back point and, if so, how many GBs would that file size be? :thinking:

Continuing with our theme of less-than-ideal episodes in Season II, this live stream showcases some of our recovery efforts since my mistake with the Dynamic Liquid mod. With the exception of a few builds, we have largely restored the server to about where we were previously.

Mods

Not showcased in the video, the Mesecons mod has been added. I am concerned for the potential impact this mod may have on performance, so please be mindful of this as you begin to experiment with the new features.

Additionally, a customization mod for our server has been created by Futuray. To start, we are enabling the creation of bonemeal from the gnawed bones dropped by gobdogs; however, I see this as the potential beginnings of a custom game. Thanks for starting this, Futuray! :raised_hands:

Technical Difficulties

As you probably noticed, the past two videos have suffered from poor frame-rates. I have recently moved to a new location and streaming setup and am working on optimizing the configuration. In the meantime, please remember that the medium is the message. :wink:

Liked your tour of @deathdiedtoday 's floatland house. I think I’ll work on a second cemetary for the GobDog Postmasters.

For the record: It was me that built the Mese Crystal in the mountain. I will build that again also.
