If you suspect it is an issue with my server, and not your client or the mod in general, please open an issue on Gitea. Alternatively, you might do the same on the GitHub page for the mod or client. I do not have an Android device on which to attempt replication, so I won’t be of much help debugging. At the very least, an issue on one or another repo will allow us to start tracking the issue. One may even already exist, so search around as well.

I noticed a small building was crafted right over the new player Spawn point. It had been griefed and looked quite a mess. Nearby the landscape had also been torn up.

Because Spawn is unprotected.

So I removed the building and restored most of the landscape. I also added a few protection blocks (wish I was carrying more with me at the time) so now I “own” the Spawn point.

I’d also like to advocate for the inclusion of the Anvil mod. I sure would like to repair my armour and tools!

Hate to harp on this but can we please get the Teleport Potion/Pad up and running also? That way I can readily come back to Spawn and add a few more protectors and do a bit more clean up work there.

That is helpful, thank you! I can add myself and anyone else we want to the owners list - maybe we should think about setting up a nice entry point for new players there. :desert_island:

Yes to both! I’ve installed Anvil, Teleportation Potions, and X Bows (see the OP for links). I also tried installing the Dwarf Fortress style caverns, but found it had a few dependencies that disagree with existing mods, making it a bit more complex. I’ll have to look at that one again when I have more time, and might need to wait to install it on a fresh world some time in the future.

Keep the suggestions coming! I am currently working on syncing in-game chat with the Matrix room.

So I finished adding protectors to the Spawn area, including the 2 small peninsulas nearby. I found a vertical mine shaft someone had dug. It goes down to at least -250 (did not go further as my time is limited today). I capped it with an iron trapdoor. Perhaps it can be tasked as a Public Mine? It would need additional protections to maintain integrity.

I have 2 more requests for mods:

  1. The Hang Glider, b/c there are many tall mountains and it’s fun!
  2. And More Blocks, b/c it provides a circular saw for crafting usefully shaped blocks. I dare say an essential mod for creative types.

Neither mod requires additional dependencies from what I see.

I’ve given some thought and, yes, I can be a Moderator. I will not be on every day but frequently enough to watch out for new players and give thoughtful assistance.

Both have been installed, but I need to restart the server for them to take effect, which might be some time tomorrow. I’m surprised there have been no requests for skins yet!

Thank you! :raised_hands: So far I’ve given privileges to you and @chi. @Unacceptium_Core, you would be welcome as well. Its not meant to be a major responsibility - most often I just use fly mode to clean up the dirt pillars people leave behind. If I’m not around and you see someone doing something obviously nefarious (hacking/griefing), though… :hammer:

Yes, I’m back with two new requests for mods.

Mailbox so the players can send both books and items to each other.

Display Modpack gives players a reasonable variety of signs and displays so communication is simplified in the absence of other players being online.

Wouldn’t it be great to walk up to a building and read that it is a “Post Office”?

Both mods require the xcompat library dependency.

So I completed the Post Office. I may do some minor edits to affect style elements but overall I think it looks pretty good. Tell me what you think! :speech_balloon:

The post office looks great and I really like the functionality it adds. I should have installed Commodity Markets as well - it would be cool to build an adjacent bank for the various ores. I’ll add that one with the next wave . I’m also a big fan of the kitty upstairs in the post office. Mr. Whiskers has a very important job on the server. :cat: :incoming_envelope:

So here’s what I’ve come up with as far as Server Rules goes:

  1. Respect All Players

Treat everyone with respect. No bullying, harassment, or inappropriate behavior. If you wouldn’t say it in person, don’t say it here.

  2. No Griefing

Don’t destroy other players’ builds, steal from their chests, or interfere with their creations. Respect other people’s hard work.

  3. No Cheating or Hacking

Use of any mods, cheats, or hacks that give you an unfair advantage (e.g., x-ray, fly hacks) is strictly prohibited. Fair play only!

  4. No Exploiting Glitches

If you find a bug or exploit, report it to the admins instead of using it to your advantage.

  5. No Spamming

Don’t spam chat with repeated messages, excessive use of caps, or unnecessary commands. It can be annoying to others.

  6. No Offensive Language

Keep the chat friendly and family-friendly. Any form of offensive, inappropriate, or discriminatory language will not be tolerated.

  7. Follow the Server’s Building Guidelines

Some areas might have building restrictions or special themes. Make sure to read and follow these guidelines to keep the server’s world
    looking nice.

  8. No PvP Without Consent

Don’t engage in PvP (Player vs. Player) combat unless both players agree to it. Keep it fair and fun for everyone.

  9. Respect the Environment

Don’t over-harvest resources like wood or ores. Replant trees, don’t leave floating trees or ruins. Let’s keep the world looking nice!

  10. No Lag Machines

Don’t create machines or farms that cause excessive lag on the server. If it’s slowing down the game for others, it’s not allowed.

  11. Use Common Sense

If it seems like it might be a problem, it probably is. If you’re unsure whether something is allowed, ask an admin or mod.

  12. No Advertising

Don’t advertise other servers or websites in chat without permission from an admin. Let’s keep the focus on the game!

  13. Respect Staff and Server Owners

Staff are here to help you and ensure the server runs smoothly. If you have an issue, take it to them calmly. Respect their decisions.

  14. Don’t Use Alternate Accounts to Avoid Punishments

If you’ve been banned or punished, don’t create alternate accounts to bypass it. Appeal the decision civilly if you feel it was unfair.

  15. Have Fun!

This is a game! We want everyone to have a fun, enjoyable experience. Be creative, be kind, and build some awesome things!

Tell me what you think.
I can place a Poster at player Spawn.

I think these rules effectively encapsulate the atmosphere we are going for on the server. Having something along these lines at spawn or as a popup when new users join would also make the server feel much more professional. I do have a few thoughts, though:

I think these accounts are created with ulterior motives and are not worth addressing. There will be nefarious actors on a public server. We will implement mods to make their goals difficult, we will ban them, and we should focus on the people who want to build a community with us. At the same time, I think we should be curious about what they are doing. We want to be aware of threats so we can implement a defense.

Racism, sexism, discrimination, harassment, etc. will not be tolerated. I’m much less bothered about people swearing. I agree that the chat should be generally friendly, and filling the chat with arbitrary profanity reduces its quality, but I personally wouldn’t go so far as to censor the occasional swear word.

I think it is important for us to clearly communicate this to new players, but enforcement would be better achieved through mods rather than rules. PVP Toggle is one implementation (a commenter says it conflicts with protectors so an alternative may be necessary). We don’t have to be punitive if doing the wrong thing is just not possible.

I agree, but it would be somewhat hypocritical for me to enforce this as I advertise my own websites on the server and vice versa. I also wouldn’t mind if someone else were to share self-hosted content in an appropriate way, so I think it is more a matter of weather or not this person is also an active member of the community.

On the whole, I am hesitant to impose rules in this way on Luanti, Discourse, or my other services. One thing I enjoy about self-hosting is that I myself am beholden to very few rules on my own platform, and I don’t necessarily want to use it to impose rules on others. The technology allows me to make it difficult for the wrong things to be done (we were discussing Discourse trust levels in another thread), so I would prefer to focus on tuning that correctly than trying to control what people do with the services that I do make available. Beyond that, my hope is that the community that we build here would simply have a culture of respect. I think if we focus on introducing newcomers to that community, the right people will want to be part of it.

Agreed. I think sometimes a person might read “no hacking” to be a challenge or an invite.

Specifics about PVP can be addressed later when players show a direct interest in it as an organized element of game play.

You pay the bills so you call the shots. If I notice this behaviour I’ll simply bring it to your attention for you to decide what, if anything, should be done.

I can appreciate your feelings on not wanting to impose oppressive rules.
I would say having rules and (strictly) enforcing them are two separate things. There should always be room for discretion.

I am not interested in being a digital cop, looking for infractions. I want to just play the game too! :slightly_smiling_face:
But some rules are good for helping Mods to know what’s actionable and what’s not.

For your consideration, a condensed revision:

  3. No Spamming

Don’t spam chat with repeated messages, excessive use of caps, or unnecessary commands. It can be annoying to others.

  4. No Offensive Language

Keep the chat civil. Any form of discrimination, racism, sexism, and the like will not be tolerated.

  5. Respect the Environment

Don’t over-harvest resources like wood or ores. Replant trees, don’t leave floating trees or ruins. Let’s keep the world looking nice!

  6. Use Common Sense

If it seems like it might be a problem, it probably is. If you’re unsure whether something is allowed, ask an admin or mod.

  7. Respect Staff and Server Owners

Staff are here to help you and ensure the server runs smoothly. If you have an issue, take it to them calmly. Respect their decisions.

  8. Don’t Use Alternate Accounts to Avoid Punishments

If you’ve been banned or punished, don’t create alternate accounts to bypass it. Appeal the decision civilly if you feel it was unfair.

  9. Have Fun!

It’s great to see the Fantasy Commodities Market up and running. I was just wondering what markets should be placed where?

Certainly not on top of the Post Office!

Edit: I found a King’s Market on the main floor of the Lighthouse!

Looks like I forgot to place protectors around that caravan :face_with_hand_over_mouth:. As far as griefing goes at leas this is entertaining. I placed the King’s Market in the lighthouse as well as a Night Market inside the ship @chi built. I haven’t played around with these too much yet, so we will have to learn how they work. Feel free to place more elsewhere, and I think we can define our own as well, which I am tracking on Gitea.

Circling back to our discussion on game rules, I was on the fence about making something official but noticed these have been added to spawn in the meantime. That is OK with me :+1: - we can always adjust if needed. Thanks for writing them and setting up spawn @Zephyr .

I was wondering if I would get spanked over that. Thanks for being gracious.

I will place a protector where the Caravan is.

@alizain and I experimented with the Night Market and I am now comfortable with how the system works. Drop the item(s) you want to sell into your market inventory. Enter a quantity and minimum price/item and click “sell”.

To buy, add trade coins to your account. Find the item you want and enter a quantity and price/item that matches the minimum and click “buy”. Item(s) are now in your Market inventory. Double-click to bring to your personal inventory.

It will be interesting to watch what happens when someone offers to buy but at a lower than minimum requested price per item. More to learn. :moneybag:

Further to the Markets:
In single-player I discovered that all available nodes (worldgen and craftable), not just default, can be added to the Market inventory and will show as “searchable” items.

Here from the Technic mod are both Blue Energy Crystal (1), and Insulator Clips (99). And (1) Headlamp from the eponymous mod.

If you have the mods installed, the nodes and items they define are available for trade! :money_mouth_face:

Haha all must comply with anarchy or face retribution. :fist:

That is excellent! I was wondering how it would handle modded items. I have quite a backlog of honey and books from AFK farming the past few weeks. Time to turn my efforts into a profit! :moneybag:
Its neat that people can be directly rewarded for building a farm and maintaining a shop, though I think we will need a few more regulars for this to come to fruition. Nevertheless, I was thinking we might want to define a separate market exclusively for ores - maybe near the public mine. I believe different markets can use different mediums of exchange and this could function as an intermediary. Maybe that idea is best saved for the future though.

Ep. 3 | Markets and Mailboxes

:mailbox: Updates

A few mods have been installed since the previous episode, most notably Teleport Potion, Mailbox and Commodity Market. Thanks to @Zephyr for utilizing the new features to add a public mine and post office to the server infrastructure. Additionally, the lighthouse and pirate ship built by @chi have been utilized as the establishments for the King’s and Night markets respectively. I have begun stocking the lighthouse with books and bread, and many other items have begun to appear on the markets as well.

Market complexity

Several users have mentioned the complexity of Commodity Markets and its fairly inscrutable interface; however, I am inclined to argue in favor of its functionality, which mimics real financial markets. An example would be the Kraken cryptocurrency exchange, for which I began working on a trading bot in Q1 of 2025. For these reasons, and absent overwhelming dissent from the community, I intend to continue using Commodity Markets for the time being.

How do you feel about the Commodity Markets mod?

:bug: Animalia bug

We discovered a bug in the Animalia mod that caused the server to enter an infinite crash loop. A rat had been captured in a net and then released back into the world. It seems that mobs gain additional properties after player interaction, as this rat began trying to steal bread and wheat from nearby chests. The action resulted in the following error:

2025-05-19 13:54:37: ERROR[Main]: ServerError: AsyncErr: Lua: Runtime error from mod 'animalia' in callback luaentity_Step(): /config/.minetest/mods/animalia/api/mob_ai.lua:1597: attempt to

This issue arose after an electrical outage caused an ungraceful server reboot, and could be directly related; nevertheless, I created an issue on the project’s GitHub page in case it is more common. Much to my amusement, the issue was resolved locally once the problem rat was exterminated.

:two: Season II

It has always been in the back of my mind that we may like to reset the server every so often for a fresh start in a new “season”. This first season, in particular, was intended to test mods and settings, and was thereby expected to be somewhat volatile. As such, there are a few existing issues that cannot be resolved without a server reset:

  • The aforementioned Animalia bug
  • Dwarf Fortress Style Caverns dependencies and generation
  • Default privs for existing players

Given the Animalia issue has, for now, been mitigated, and that the others are not necessarily game breaking, there is not a pressing need to reset the server at this time; furthermore, there are still things I would like to do in the current world. There is, therefore, no current plan or time-frame for moving forward with a server reset.
