I first noticed the strange, glossy circles on the default grass and wondered, āWhat the blazes?ā. Then on ascending a snowy volcano I started hearing the whistling wind and saw the sun was ⦠a little⦠off. I realized that at least 1 new mod was installed so I checked and sure enough it was so. I think those are good additions to the game and look forward to experiencing more of them.
Iām glad you liked them, but to be honest Iām not sure how I feel about them - at least in their current incarnation. The weather seems to change too frequently (youād think Iād be used to that in North Carolina). I am thinking in the future we could tweak them to reflect seasonal weather patterns. Iāve been feeling inspired by Vintage Story lately. That game focuses quite heavily on survival and crafting, whereas we have moved more towards playing in creative mode.
I think the sun looks like the baby from Teletubbies. ![]()
Think about it this way.
We create things now to be included in the next season.
Town hall, post office, residences, monuments.
S3 is when we go survival mode.
Find a flat land area, drop everything there to create a town and let it run.
Everyone will need to contribute to keep food supplies in a good state.
Equipment and tools may become harder to get/upgrade.
I see stone tools being the norm.
Including mobs is another discussion.
As we all see, gobdogs spawn too much and goblins attack first rather than trade.
I donāt mind mobs but it does get a bit much when you keep getting attacked if your equipment isnāt good enough.
Just my thoughts anyway. ![]()
What if S3 had two servers? One would be a hardcore survival and the other a creative flat world. We would design and build large structures on the creative server and then import them into the survival one, which will focus more on crafting, farming, adventuring, and economy.
If we designed a few modular components for buildings following a defined theme, we could then quickly put together a large, detailed city on the survival server in which players can live.
Unfortunately, I agree with your review of the Goblins mod. We have had bad luck with mobs. Iām not going to remove them from S2, as it could cause issues, and I am planning to experiment with skeletons in October, but otherwise we will have to continue to look for a good mob mod. The S3 survival server will need some sort of adversary!
There is a monster mob which has desert skeletons (IIRC) along with others in the pack. They are not overkill and there are some strong monsters in the mod. Just learn to avoid them. MOBS.
As for building design, I donāt mind copying MC builds as best as I can.
I recommend this signs mod. Text appears on the sign rather than pointing at it.
Still recommending Travelnets as a good way to get around, Will take a long time to get in the new season unless someone goes manic with mining.
The 2 server idea might be a good thing. Anybody else have thoughts?
You say you want mob adversaries for Season 3? Well, I have seen how some of Wilhelmineās People greet strangers and itās not with open arms!
They all want to kill me!
The animals also have either instant agro or vigourously defend themselves from attack. Hereās a Hyena:
They are formidable adversaries.
Donāt mess with the Moose!!
One interesting aspect is the agro of the wildlife is automatically directed against other animals and Villagers. Makes for one hell of a bloody melee! Iāve also seen a hyena chase a fox for many dozens of nodes in order to do battle.
This will beef up the Survival aspect of the game. There is a Wilhelmineās Cave creatures mod, but I havenāt looked at that yet, or how it might interact with DF Caverns. The Wilhelmine Biomes are very pleasant and add abundant new blocks, however this does seem to conflict with the More Blocks (circular saw) mod. I will do more work to see how this is mitigated.
I like the idea of 2 servers. Just add the Whitelist Mod to keep access locked down. If Season 3 uses a new seed I suggest the following:
31374143475359616771
It seems to produce nicely balanced biomes. It is the 11th through 20th Prime numbers, inclusively.
On the topic of signage, I think Ehlphabet Mod is wonderful for larger signage! One character per block and the visibility at a distance is crystal clear.
They all want to kill me
They are formidable adversaries.
Don't mess with the Moose!!
How do you manage to upset so many mobs? ![]()
Its almost a haikuā¦
I wonder how many other players have found it too⦠If you wanted to write the coordinates of your builds in a book, it could be copied and stored in the library. A wiki post here on Discourse could be good for that as well. I think I had intended that for the Season I thread, but we didnāt use it very much. Maybe its time to bring that idea back.
Maybe take them into S3? There are a couple others Iāve forgotten where they are.
The Lost Episode
@ThisNurseKills and I hosted a stream the other day that started with SuperTuxKart but ended with Luanti. I generally would prefer to keep the episodes in this series clear, so I will not do this again in the future, but I wanted to link the STK post so that the content was mentioned in this thread.
Has this died now? I pop on every so often and see nobody.
I guess this is a symptom of having a lot of choice with a game like this.
People tend to pplay on servers with a bigger population.
Shame really. The buildings were getting quite interesting.
One doesnāt stop playing Minecraft - they just take breaks. The server is still up and people are welcome to use it, Iāve just been focusing on other things. Players are welcome to use this thread and the Matrix chat to meet up, organize builds and games, and share content they create from the server. Iāve had my attention elsewhere lately, but Iām betting that eventually someone will do something interesting there that will inspire me to log back in with some fresh ideas.
Something you can do to help is invite new people to the game, forum, and chat. If you wanted to share them in other communities you are a part of when it makes sense to do so, it would help make things much more active.
I work full-time and have a lot of project ideas. I am intentionally publishing a lot of half-baked things with the hope that it will solicit collaboration.
Itās bad enough the wife calls me a cartoon pilot ![]()
She rolled her eyes when she found out I was playing a Minecraft type game, although I did correct her. ![]()
S2:E8 | Checking In
Tonight, @ThisNurseKills and I decided to check in on the Luanti server to see what people have been doing in our absence. To my surprise, quite a lot has been built in that time. I believe @Athene is responsible for much of the work shown tonight, and they have really done an amazing job! We will certainly be saving these builds to bring into Season III when the time comes, but for tonight it was cool for me to just see them for the first time. I may resume AFKing in this game during my work day, which could lead to more activity on the server, but for now I am happy to see that things are still developing even while my attention has been elsewhere. Especially with the upcoming season of Hermitcraft, I imagine I will find some inspiration for this game in the near future.
You were correct first time, the starter homes were by me. As I am a mod, I can drop things anywhere.
Youāll also have a time finding my āplay aboutā area. ![]()
You found one of my statues. The one with hair a lit eyes.
Hi.
I built the buildings near the bridge: pub, tea house, watermill house, and the building next to the watermill which is a beer brewery.
The house and the library near the volcano are also my work.
I logged in a lot this autumn, but Iām a little busier these days.
I want other people also build something near my buildings to form a town.
