I have left a few very ruined arches not far from spawn and currently 1 ruined building further out.
S2:E3 | The Library
This is a slightly more casual episode where I am just building a library tower on one of the floating mountains above spawn. The build is based on one I had previously done in a Minecraft world, so I largely had the design in mind prior to starting. Nevertheless, I spend some time at the beginning exploring build sites and planning the structure before starting in on the first floor. I only made it as far as the first floor of the structure, but I intend to continue this build in the future during more impromptu streams.
S2:E4 | Goblins and Mesecons
ThisNurseKills and I begin this session examining the Mesecon experimentation center built in the sky above spawn by @Zephyr. I have not personally done a lot of experimentation with the mod, so most (if not all) of my knowledge here comes second-hand. Even so, we can see a lot of potential for using these to make the server more interactive. We subsequently check out the progress made on the Library, the new house by @alizain, dhausmig’s castle in the sky, and Futuray’s home before venturing into the caves beneath my house to meet the goblins dwelling there.
Unfortunately, it seems that switching back to the desktop computer only provided a temporary improvement in framerates, and by the end of the stream I was continuously dropping below ten FPS. I suspect the Goblins mod may be the root cause of this issue, but I will need to do more experimenting to be certain. As are many things on this platform, it is a work in progress. ![]()
@eric I am leaning on your knowledge of music theory for this concept:
If there was a special Meseblock that could fall like sand, and it fell past a Noteblock, would the Noteblock produce a quarter-note or an eighth-note?
Something else?
I’m thinking if you had the full octave of Noteblocks in horizontal row, and a set of columns of sand and “MeseCanFallBlocks”, then you can make a kind of Player Piano. But one that only plays that one kind of note, b/c you can’t stretch out the note.
Does this make sense? Am I hallucinating? ![]()
This is a great idea! Weather you used quarter, eighth, etc. to represent the block would be entirely up to you, all other values would be relative to the original. If you used a full block as a quarter note, a slab would be an eighth, and two blocks would be a half note. Moving the blocks back to the top to reset the song would be tricky.
Have you seen how Minecraft players build music with noteblocks?
![]()
That’s truly amazing! I have no idea how one would translate redstone signals into mesecon signals.
Not with the Edit mod! In fact you could save entire songs with Edit.
So I made the MeseCanFall block. I set up a single-player game and tested it.
Placed next to anything that uses mesecon power it works exactly like a Mese block does and activates the adjoining device.
And it falls exactly like sand too. However, that action does not activate any of the mesecon devices. Only when it is at reast does the power flow again. ![]()
There are Luanti rooms in Matrix. I think I’ll ask if anyone has some insight into it. ![]()
Mystery solved: When placed the block is a node but when falling it’s an entity and lacks the intrinsic mese power attribute. There was the suggestion that this can be overcome with a programming solution, but also to expect potential glitches. It’s single-player mode so what could really go wrong?
I feel like you would need the equivalent of a Minecraft observer to achieve this - not sure if there is something like that in Mesecons:
I’m curious if the goal is to build a general music player or specifically a player piano.
Yes, you would need to manually reset the song each time you wanted it to play - which isn’t necessarily a problem, just a bit manual.
On the Mese testing platform, you set up the red, green, and blue lights that activate sequentially. If you replace the light blocks with note blocks, I think you would be able to activate the sequence with the push of a button.
Again, I’m not sure if the goal is a general music player or specifically a player piano. The former seems much easier, but both seem like worthwhile projects to me.

I believe the Luanti equivalent is the Node Detector from the Technic (Plus) Mod
. We run into the same cul-de-sac though: a falling block is an entity, not a node.
I’ll gladly admit that I am thinking 2-dimensionally (literally) b/c this aspect of Mesecons is new to me and it’s what I can see clearly in my head. If you swap Noteblocks for Lightblocks I understand that idea clearly, but not the timing issue solutions b/c that is literally a 3-D puzzle.
If you want to reuse chords the wires, which need precise time delays, need to be looped back through a volume of space. At this point my eyes lose focus and my skin gets cold and clammy. ![]()
Much easier for me to conceptualize a moving “sheet” of music.
I might spend just a bit more time on this if the suggestion of a programming solution holds any merit, but I have probably used this idea as an excuse to not work on my Proxmox project.
I will report back on the weekend if this idea holds further merit.
There is a mod called MoreMesecons that has an Entity Detector. The block cannot be rotated (yet) and only detects entities that move horizontally past it (for now). But a Cart is an entity.
I did this: https://files.catbox.moe/qn5nut.mp4
I feel I am close to making the player piano! ![]()
Edit: No I am not close. Mission aborted! Time to get back on track.
That was cool! There are a few extra mesecon mods that might be worth adding. I think deathdiedtoday originally requested digilines, but I wanted to add them one at a time.
I am intending to get Futuray’s mod installed this weekend, so maybe I will take the opportunity to add these as well.
Also, if you put the .mp4 link on its own line, Discourse should render a preview:
Everyone is welcome to record gameplay and add their own videos to this thread. As you probably noticed, @Zephyr, this site has an limit on file size for uploads, so those videos will probably need to be uploaded to YouTube or another service. I’m open to looking into something self-hosted for this, such as PeerTube. Let me know if there is interest in that:
I am pretty much at capacity with my Kubernetes cluster, but I could easily add extra resources to the underlying server to double that capacity, so this isn’t a huge issue.
S2:E5 | Skibidi Blocks
Showcasing builds, discovering anomalies, and expanding my vocabulary - a very productive session. I am excited to see the live-stream chat being used - thanks for joining, cranky-mario and hopeful-meninsky! I would like to embed this chat into my videos, which is technically possible using OBS, but the version of this software that ships with my OS (Debian 12) does not include the Browser source option. Debian 13 Trixie has been announced to be released on August 9th of this year, so I may be able to do this in the near future.
I am also working in the background to publish a schedule of upcoming streams on Owncast, but there are some technical limitations making the desired implementation (see the NextCloud Calendar Resources App) difficult. For now, we have tentatively scheduled the next stream for 2025-07-29 at 20:00 EST. I will post updates in the Matrix chat when we have confirmed these details.
If I had known I would be having company I would have tidied up! ![]()
Good catch on @ThisNurseKills ’ part w/ the observation that the client makes the difference in viewing the clock face accurately. I’m still on 5.11.0 myself.
I love the comment “What a strange thing to have in your home.” regarding the Primordial fruit dispensing Command Block. Like most things belonging to the Luanti imperium I was trying to learn it’s secrets. I get a kick out of the whimsy of a random player receiving a Primordial fruit from seemingly nowhere! ![]()
You found some peculiar chests on the 3rd floor. They are an artifact of the pasting of my (*.mts) house from the Edit mod. They regain their functionality after digging them up and being placed back down again. Until then they have no ability to register metadata.
On the nearby island and other spit of land i was setting up DF materials as fences to see what would look good for the ‘Primordial Cemetary’. I have an unpolished sense of aesthetic so I need to try things a bunch of times in different places to see what makes sense. To that end – I discovered that the Nether Cap fence posts are very cold and if placed near water this happens:
I wonder what other secrets the materials of DF are hiding? ![]()
S2:E6 | The Book of Coordinates
I am pretty excited about the audience participation from the past few steams. Having a list of places to explore and showcase made for a straightforward series of events for the evening. Thanks for that, @Zephyr and @CaptainSparx. Town Hall and Ozymandias were highlights for me in this episode.
Along with some comments in the chat, I especially appreciated a few accounts interacting with the stream on Mastodon. I’ve been a bit less active on Discourse over the past couple of weeks as I’ve been trying to build out these integrations with the Fediverse. The #luanti category should actually now be fully federated, meaning you can reply to threads using a Mastodon account (see the thread linked below to learn how to link your accounts), but I think I may have to create a new thread for Season II to begin using that feature here. This post will be testing that hypothesis.
Also, I am working on a public calendar for Owncast that will publish the time and date of upcoming streams. If you would like to participate in a stream or have something showcased, we can use this to organize that.
So I was going to get the blame for you misplacing your MESE lamp? ![]()
I saw you eyeing it while we were working on the town hall. Sticky fingers over here. ![]()
S2:E7 | Shop Talk
As more people are joining in the live stream chat, I am finding my attention straying away from the game. Engaging with the live viewers is generally the objective of streaming so this is actually a positive development, but it means I will need to adapt the format of these videos. This one started with showcasing some new mods with ThisNurseKills, and we eventually focused on adding to the town hall @CaptainSparx and I have been building; however, we were joined in the chat by LogalDeveloper, who was able to offer Owncast and OBS expertise to help improve the quality of future streams. Thank you Logal! We also discussed MinIO and PeerTube as video hosting platforms. I was disappointed to hear that MinIO may not be a viable long-term solution for my platform, but I got the impression PeerTube might. I will post more about that in the future. Also welcome to solidheron, who joined the server towards the end of the stream. I look forward to seeing you both in the game!
New Mods
API
These mods were dependencies of the gameplay and ambience mods listed below; however, I think installing player monoids fixed a longstanding issue with the existing gliders mod where they would suddenly drop out of the air. More testing is needed to confirm this.
Gameplay
These mods add the primary content of this update. I highly recommend testing the new gliders from on top of the Library. Maybe in a future update of Futuray’s mod we should change the name of the old gliders to “parachutes”.
Ambience
Finally, a few ambience mods. They come highly rated, but let me know what you think. So far I have found this weather mod to be much better than the one we tested in Season I.
I’ve not noticed the ambience one yet.
You should be able to hear it in the video! It adds sound effects like birds and frogs. I think the rain and underwater sounds are from that mod as well.
