I have over 500 hours into Terraria on Steam, and that is just Steam. But I never beat this gem on Master Mode. That is a skill issue that needs to be rectified. Today, we make the first step.
We started off as usual, grabbed a bunch of cacti, realized we don’t have enough for a cactus set, yearned for the mines, died a bunch. At the end of the day, we eneded up with a full set of tungsten armor and the merchant.
Nice start! I have 0 hours on Terraria so I’ll be interested to follow your journey here. Keep us updated!
That looks pretty sick - are you playing singleplayer or on a server?
singleplayer
(junk here bc 20 character limit apparently)
After a whole lot of dying, a few more towns are now complete.
Introducing:
The Ocean hut
The Jungle hut (not my proudest)
The Tundra hut
The Desert hut
And lastly, The Shimmer hut
Construction has also begun on The Central Castle
Next goals are:
- Complete the castle (it must be bigger than the dungeon entrance)
- Finally stop getting my ass whooped by something as stupidly easy as the Eye of Cthulhu, possibly advance all the way up to full Crimtane gear
Looks sick! How do you travel between locations? Is there a fast travel system?
Yes, the crystal things in the screenshots. They are called pylons, and they can be used to instantly travel to any other pylon as long as it is in the correct biome and there are at least 2 villagers nearby. There are multiple types, one per each biome, and there can be only one of each type in the world.
Proudly presenting the new and complete central castle:
We also finally defeated the Eye and placed the according Master Mode trophy:
First boss down, 27 more to go.
Dabbling into alchemy, crafting some useful potions:

These potions helped to finally defeat the Brain:
Phase 2, which is the real brain?
We received our second relic, as well as much needed tissue samples, allowing us to upgrade our armor for the first time in a while.
Introducing Crimtane armor:
The life regen set bonus is insane, might even carry us into Hardmode. Nevertheless, we do not have enough tissue samples for the rest of the gear, so we need to kill a few more brains. It only took 34 hours to get this far…
The castle looks awesome! Congrats on the trophy, too!
Today was full of upgrades. After killing a few more brains, we had enough tissue samples to fully upgrade to Crimtane, allowing us to pursue the final upgrade for this part of the game, Hellstone:
And with that, it was Skeletron time:
Hellstone gear is usually overkill for Skeletron. It absolutely was not this time.
But with Skeletron out of the way, we now have unrestricted access to the riches of the Dungeon:
One such rich was a certain woman, with a very fun looking shop:
We found the last sword needed to craft the Night’s Edge, an unholy combination of 4 swords from 4 distinct parts of the world, and the ultimate sword for this part of the game:
Sorry, no gameplay today, just theory. Here’s the problem:
- It looks like I will have to actively reforge my gear for the first time, which takes copious amount of money, among other things, which also take copious amount of money.
- It looks like I will be actually crafting healing potions instead of merely finding them, due to the rate I appear to be burning through them. This will be especially apparent once we beat the Wall, the guardian of the world and prison to ancient spirits of light and dark.
Now I teased last time with freeing a certain redhead. That redhead is none other than the Mechanic, the expert in wiring and other automation related machinery. She dramatically expands our choices.
Farming Money
We need a money farm. Brainstorming time:
Brain Farm
My classic money farm. Find two Crimsons, convert one into a vicious mushroom farm and the other into a volcano mob farm. Craft the yields from both into Brain summons, and fight Brains. While the money the Brain drops isn’t that valuable, the crimtane absolutely is and can be sold for a profit of around 15 gold per Brain.
Due to the mob farm component, this farm is semi-automatic. For safety reasons, it also needs two distant Crimsons, one on each side of the world, which, by sheer luck, we don’t have here (I don’t think I’ve ever seen a large world with all Crimsons on the same side). Also a little tedious to build. Not practical here.
Statue Farm
Some statues, when wired, spawn whatever they are a statue of. These statue-spawned enemies have a few nerfs though. They don’t drop coins nor food, and reduced drop rates for everything else. I also did some testing, and they only seem to work when there are players nearby, making them semi-automatic. Still, they should be promising, with mobs like the Granite Golem having a statue and a chance to drop geodes, which can be broken to yield gems.
Glowing Mushroom Farm
We will be building a surface glowing mushroom biome anyway. Might as well build a glowing mushroom farm. Glowing mushrooms don’t sell for much, but a surface glowing mushroom farm has a very high crop yield. We might also need the glowing mushrooms later anyway (to craft healing potions, for starters), so I might build one, albeit not for money.
Gemtree Farm
Gemtrees grow gems, which sell for a lot.
Further Developments
As we progress, better money farms might become available:
- Chlorophyte Farm
- Shroomite Farm
- Crystal Farm
- Better Boss Farm
- Pirate Farm
Well, I am yet to figure out which approach I’ll take, might do a gemtree farm, since gemtrees are new (1.4).
This thread reads like a comic book with all the images. Nice use of the medium. It’s been cool to follow along with. I’ll throw a vote out for the brain farm with a note that I don’t know what I’m talking about. ![]()
