Discussion about eom.dev, its organization, how it works, and how we can improve it.
It’s a very odd thing for use and layout. I did use something which had a similar style years ago on my own site. I found it awkward and ending up going back to a forum. Still, we have to try these things. I’ll get somewhat used to it over time. ![]()
Could you elaborate on this? I’d be interested to see if there is anything I can improve here without switching to something else.
I think I need to do a better job of explaining what each of these platforms are for. It should probably be in a thread of its own, but in short:
- Gitea is for source code, automation, and project management
- Discourse is the slow lane for communications. It works like email, and is indexed on the internet.
- Matrix is the fast lane for communications. It works like SMS texting and can be end-to-end encrypted (though there are public rooms that are not encrypted).
- Luanti is a fun game we can play.
For me, the purpose of all of this is to have a software development and communications platform. It just also happens to be able to host game servers. ![]()
One more note: when I say Discourse works like email, I mean that you can actually interface with the forum entirely over SMTP. For technical reasons, this is not fully enabled just yet, but in the near future you can use an email client of your choosing instead of browsing the forum in your browser.
You need to define what categories you want with what they cover and stick to it.
Luanti can cover everything about the game. Give as best as you can descriptions of what can go in the category section.
